The One Skill Review Part 3

Hello, welcome back to my blog. This time I will resume my review of The One Skill book. Happy reading guys.....

Chapter 11: Developing the Letting Go Skills
Based on the previous review, we can see some of the benefits we can get from letting go skills. To develop these skills, we must solve and practice smaller skills first and then unite them in greater skills. The skill pieces are:
1. Noticing Signals
2. Seeing the Ideal
3. Seeing the Harm
4. Letting Go with Love
5. Seeing Reality
All of these skills are the part of letting go skills. Each of these skills will be explained in the next chapter.

Chapter 12: The 1st Skill (Noticing Signals)
The first skill is noticing signals. These signals can be anger, frustration, anxiety, feeling hurt, jealousy, procrastination, wanting to get justice, and so on.
It is not wrong if we feel these signals, but we just have to accept them and don't allow ourselves to do things that we will regret later and better if we start the letting go process.
To practice it, we must make a commitment to to notice when these signals appear, do this until we are proficient at doing so.

Chapter 13: The 2nd Skill (Seeing the Ideal)
After noticing signals, the next skill is to look inside and see the thickening of the signals appearing.
As we know, everyone must have aspirations and hopes, these ideals and hopes are fantasies about the reality of what should happen. If they match with reality, we will not be angry, and vice versa.
Signals can arise because of the ideal that we have. Examples of these ideals are:
1. People must be fair.
2. People must respect and not insult us.
3. Our lives will be full of joy and pleasure without pain, etc.

Chapter 14: The 3rd Skill (Seeing the Harm)
After noticing the signals and seeing the ideal that causes the signals, it is time for us to practice the next skill "Seeing the Harm".
When we notice the signals and ideals that cause them, we must ask ourselves whether or not those ideals endanger others. If these ideals can harm yourself and others, we better let them go, whereas if those ideals cause us to do good things, then we don't need to let them go.

Chapter 15: The 4th Skill (Letting Go With Love)
Letting go of harmful ideals can be a compassionate act, here is how to let go with love and compassion:
1. Hope that we and other people around us are happy.
2. See that these ideals cause suffering.
3. End suffering by giving up idealism and focus on the good things we will have if we letting go of        the ideal.
4. Let our hearts and minds relax.
5. Make ourselves new people with a reduced ideal one.

Chapter 16: The 5th Skill (Seeing Reality)
After we successfully let go, then we have to turn our attention to reality and see what we are. Instead of measuring ourselves against idealism about what we should do, it is better to see ourselves for who we are.
In life, sometimes life is not what we aspire to be, but it is no a problem as long as we can accept differences that exist as they are.

"The One Skill" Book's Review Part 2

Hello, today I would like to continue my previous post, the review of The One Skill Book. Happy reading :)

Chapter 6: Dealing with Habits
Building new habits is actually quite simple, we make the desired habits then repeat until finally the habits become automatic every day. However, there are many obstacles that can disturb us to make these new habits. This chapter tell us what are the obstacles and how to overcome them.

Chapter 7: Dealing with Possessions
Often we buy, store and collect items that are actually not very useful or no longer use them. We buy and store it because it has its own memories for us. As a result, the items in our house piled up and the house fell apart. In this chapter, the author shares his experience in releasing possessions that have memories for him.

Chapter 8: Dealing with Resistance from Others
We must often ask others to change to suit our desires but then they reject it. Why is that? That is because we cannot force others to change. Everyone has the right to determine their own lives. this chapter tell us that we must let go of our desire to control people. Instead of wanting to change others, it is better to focus on ourselves so we can be useful for others.

Chapter 9: Dealing with Change
This chapter tell us that everything in this world is nothing eternal, both living things and inanimate objects. All things will surely experience changes including ourselves. To overcome this change, the author invites us to use letting go skills by accepting change and confronting reality rather than fighting it and making us suffer. By accepting change, we can change ourselves better than before.

Chapter 10: Dealing with Loss
When we lose someone or something that is very important to us, of course we will feel sad, angry or confused. It is not wrong if we feel that way, but rather than dissolve in suffering, it is better to let go of our past and accept the reality we face today. This chapter invites us to give up what has happened and appreciate what we still have today.

Title     : The One Skill: How Mastering the Art of Letting Go Will Change Your Life
Author : Leo Babauta
Pages   : 76

Synopsis:
The One Skill is an ebook that provides tips to let go of your fears, obstacles, unwillingness, and even pain. If there is one mental skill that everyone in the world can use, here it is. Being able to let go will open a new level of peace in your life.

Review:
1. Chapter 1: Why Letting Go
This chapter tells the reader why people must have the ability to let go. This is because almost all problems that occur in life come from our inability to let go. The problem in question is too much thinking or feeling anxious, frustrated, depressed, and angry about things that have been / are / will happen in our lives. If we have mastered the skill of letting go, we can act better in handling all our life problems. This letting go skill can be learned by practice 5 minutes every day.

2. Chapter 2: Dealing with Procrastination
Many people who procrastinate on everything, what's the cause? the reason is because they are afraid. This fear arises because of an ideal idea. Many people fear they will fail in realizing their ideas or they fear that the results they can do not match what they expected before. To overcome this problem, we must let go of idealism in our body, assuming that all the processes we experience are an experience, we must get out of our comfort zone so we can learn new things. If we fail now, we can make that experience a provision for us to succeed on another day. Let go, accept, embrace, be present, and do are the cure for procrastination.

3. Chapter 3: Dealing with Fear
Problems are rooted in fear, which is rooted in ideals. Fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, fear of letting go of control, fear of being alone, fear of abandonment, fear of discomfort, fear of missing out, fear that you’re not OK as you are or your life isn’t OK as it is, fear that some ideal won’t come true. These all stem from ideals and a lack of trust in yourself. If we can practice letting go of the ideals, and start to accept and trust in ourselves, then we can overcome lots of problems.

4. Chapter 4: Dealing with Difficult People
When we are dealing with someone who is difficult or can be said to be stubborn and angry, than we turn angry, it is better to be wise for example to let go of our ideals, accept reality, and act appropriately with affection. It's difficult, but it's better so that the problem doesn't get complicated.

5. Chapter 5: Dealing with Distractions
Interference or distraction is indeed very pleasant to do. Often when we do something, instead of focusing on doing the activity, but instead focus on other things that are not important but interesting to do. This chapter tells the reader tips that can be done to letting go the distractions.
